Your backpack, your best friend!

Choosing the right backpack is essential for an enjoyable journey on the Camino. Fundamental priority is functionality and the most important; the size. The “rule” is; total weight of your pack loaded with everything including water and snacks is 10% of your body weight. Your body will appreciate your careful preparation.
When choosing your backpack, make sure that the various belts can be individually adapted. Your backpack should have a hip belt under all circumstances. This is where most of the weight sits on you and your shoulders will be gratefully relieved.
But the essential tip is this: Find a backpack of the right size. Meaning: the bigger the backpack, the more we stow in it. It is not easy to limit yourself at the beginning of the pilgrimage, but it will be much easier for you to make a selection if your backpack does not offer more space. Some pilgrims manage with 30L packs. Perhaps 40L is reasonable. A 50L pack fully loaded including 2L of water for the day is likely to weigh over 10kg. Remember, the “rule” is 10% of body weight. If you weigh 100kg, that’s ok!
